Jeff's most recent project: New fence!!



After the fence was constructed we attacked the laurel hedges with some major trimming. Luckily Mimi was available to watch Mitch so Jeff and I could work faster.

On Saturday I went to Dani's house for a girls visit with Dani and Cara. They were very kind and made an exception to let Mitch join in our fun. It was good food and good fun to catch up with my friends from Vashon.Dani and Mitch (and good food)

Visiting Mimi

We made a quick trip to Renton for lunch with Mimi.

Don't mind the frowny lip from Mitch. He was happy to see Mimi. Below is the face he made when I told him we were going to visit.

Well Baby, 2 month

We had our 2 month Well Baby appointment today. Mitch is doing great, gaining weight and growing taller. He was 13# 9oz and 24" long. The tough part of the appointment was the vaccinations. He got one oral vaccination and 3 shots. No tears from momma although it was very tough to hear and see his cries of pain.

My recent concern has been his dry skin so I asked the Dr. about it. She advised lotion and minimal baths. If he starts to scratch at his skin we could look into a steroid lotion/cream. I think his dry skin is due to the dry air we have in the home from the wood-burning stove. So along with the lotion and minimal baths I'll try to boil water/humidify to see if it makes a difference.

**UPDATE vaccination reaction: Mitch was fussy off and on from 6pm to 10pm. I broke down at 7pm and gave him a dose of Tylenol (I was trying to avoid medication) but he still couldn't sleep and didn't want to eat. Once I got some milk in him just before 10pm he finally fell asleep and slept for 6.5hrs!! I guess all that fussing wore him out.

Cops and robbers Playdate

Below are some pictures from a playdate with cousin Noah (5 weeks older). Since they don't really "play" together yet. I've made up a storyline to make the pictures more exciting.

At first the gathering was peaceful. Both babies were laying down next to each other with no issues. Noah was successfully avoiding Mitch's flying arms.


Then things got out of control when Mitch started to cry. Although he didn't know it, he was breaking the noise ordinance law.


Noah pulled out his guns and shouted "Your under arrest, raise your hands to the sky"



And finally here is Mitch sufficiently plugged and under control.

Daddy time

I've been trying to get out and play soccer again. So when I run off to a soccer game Jeff gets to have special time with Mitch. Here are some pics I snapped as I headed out the door last Friday. He is such a good dad and I love seeing them snuggle together.

Diapering lessons

I didn't do much babysitting growing up so diaper changing was a new thing for me.

Lesson 1: Be ready for his fireman hose action.
Lesson 2: Sometimes you have to change a diaper you just changed.
Lesson 3: Remember to clean under his parts and in his leg folds.
Lesson 4: And be sure to get a good seal on both sides on the diaper.

The Beginning

Welcome to the Mitchell Milestones blog. After 2 months of pressure to start a blog I have finally caved in.

So to get you caught up... I was pregnant.


Then Mitch Eugene Mitchell was born on February 6th. I was planning to celebrate my own recent birthday (turned 30 on Feb 3rd) with friends on the 6th but Mitch had his own birthday celebration planned. I woke up with some signs of labor just before 8am. In denial of actual labor I was reluctant to time the contractions. Jeff successfully convinced me to time the contractions around 10am, we called the midwife to report 3 min apart and lasting 30 seconds. By 12 noon I was telling Jeff I couldn't stand the labor at home and wanted to go to the birth center. He hurried to install the carseat base and we arrived at the birth center at 1pm . The midwife had just enough time to fill the tub for Mitch's water birth at 1:40pm. He weighed 7lbs even and was 21 inches long.


Over the last two months we've been adjusting to life with baby. Lack of sleep, dirty diapers, baby talk and all.
